Eyelash Perming Is the New Blue-black

If you want to look like Betty Boop, then this blog's for you. I first discovered eyelash perming in Kuala Lumpur and am now a sworn member of the Betty Boop lookalike club.
Fortunately I don't have to travel to Malaysia to keep it up as several beauty places in Auckland (and no doubt the rest of New Zealand - feel free to add your favourite's in the comments below) do it. I go to Elisia at Cerise. She actually specialises in eyelash extensions, which I have also tried but found them too high maintenance for me. But perming, now that's easy.
[IMG1 R] It lasts about three months - or as long as your lash cycle. (Did you know your lashes replace themselves that often?) I also get a tint (blue-black for the jet Betty look) and this is done after the lash perm.
It's a fiddly procedure but takes less than an hour and costs between $65 and $95 for both treatments depending on the experience of the stylist.
First Elisia chooses which type of "roller" to use. She has small ones for a tighter curl and larger ones if you just want your lashes to look lifted rather than rolled. I've experimented with a few of them now and prefer the lifted look. It really makes a difference too - the eyes look bigger without you looking odd.
First the roller is placed on your upper lid along the lash line. It has a sticky glue on it and each lash is pressed up onto it with a little tool (not that I've seen it as my eyes are closed, but I'm thinking tweezer).
This is the most important part as if they are not straight you will have lashes permed like criss-crossed x's. Then the first solution is painted on which makes the lashes flexible. This takes about 10 minutes to work its magic, then the second solution is added which is the perm. It smells like the 1980s when I sported a spiral perm!
Another 10 minutes and it's all over bar the tint, then off I go, into the afternoon with wicked lashes for great butterfly kisses.

Fek, women are shallow!
ReplyI've had my lashes permed too and love it... Just be sure to discuss with your beautician what look you're after as I've tried smaller rods and larger rods and prefer the larger rods which gives you lift as opposed to curl ,as I found with they curled back on themselves with the smaller rods as I have fairly long lashes naturally.
ReplyThis sounds great. Were your eyes sensitive to the product?
