The thing that first got my attention were the llamas... why Llamas? Jane the owner laughed! 'I'm always asked that!' she replied. What intrigued her I found out was that they are bright animals, easy to train and they have a lot of character... not to mention the fiber, you can do a lot with llama fiber.
I had the pleasure of meeting a few of these long necked creatures and found it slightly tickly and inwardly exciting to get my first llama kiss! It mostly involved much sniffing on the llamas side of things but I will never forget being so close to the animal.
I learnt to felt and I made some funky animals from the llama wool, (They were meant to be mini llamas but you can't really tell)! I took the llamas for a walk around the grounds and met the other animals on site. Sheep, an alpaca and a few cows.
This warm, clean and delightfully friendly farm stay was so good I stayed an extra two nights. It has comfortable rooms and a shared living space and kitchen. Meals are provided and are eaten with the host. A good selection of activities are on site so you don't get bored easily and if you don't feel like doing much you could take a wander through the land or even a dip in the pond!
The farm is located not far off highway 1 on the outskirts of the village of Sefton. So really easy to get to.
Alpha Fields Llama Farm was recommended to me by my friend Alex who knew the owner of the farm Jane Buxton who doesn't live onsite, the place is managed by a Japanese guy called Shun.
I would recommend this place again in a minute.
