River Birches was more than we had hoped for. Anthea and her husband Bill looked after us very well. Even leant us some warm clothing. The retreat or lodge, I forget what it is called was wonderful. Made us feel like we had inherited a luxury home that was our. Not like a B&B, the managers house is next door. So we had the full service of a hotel, intimacy of a B&B but lots of privacy. The artwork, attention to details, bedding were all very nice. It had a special feeling to it. Not sure how to say it. But we just felt like we were "at home" but were spoiled by having all of our needs met. Since we had to take a raincheck on the Tongariro crossing we now have an excuse to come back.
