Centrally located in the Catlins, between the sea, the Catlins River and native bush, Pounawea Motor Camp is a well established camp providing tranquillity and a piece of nature rarely experienced anywhere else in New Zealand.

There are numerous tent sites available throughout the camp, some of which overlook the estuary, and there are the beautiful native Totara trees that offer protection from the hot sun.

The 8 cabins are all equipped with fridge, toaster, jug, heater, double beds & bunks with fitted bedsheets, pillows, pillowcases and are very comfortable.

Things to do: There are two bush walks situated at Pounawea (one of which starts inside the motor camp), there is a well equipped playground close to the camp for the kids, and a very safe beach for them to play on. Pounawea Camping Ground also has kayaks for hire. The golfcourse is only 1.5km from the camp, and for the fisherman there are opportunities to hook nice sea run trout within walking distance of the camp.
