- History
- Coffee houses are said to have appeared first in Mecca, Cairo and Istanbul, in the sixteenth century. The first coffee house is dated at 1554. The coffee tree is originally from Ethiopia. It is said that coffee was discovered by a goatherd who noticed that his goats became lively after eating the coffee tree berries. He told the monks in a nearby monastery about his discovery, and they tested and confirmed what he had found.
