The Fox Glacier is 25 kms south along the road from Franz Josef. This glacier was named after the New Zealand Prime Minister, Sir William Fox after he visited the area in 1872.

Fox Village exhibits a relaxed, alpine atmosphere and the serenity of Lake Matheson, just 6kms out of the village, adds to the beauty of this area.

There have been some famous scenes filmed and photos taken at this lake, perfect reflections of Mt Cook and Mt Tasman have featured in many publications and on many postcards...a photo opportunity not to be missed.
