Nestled in the southwest corner of Lake Taupo, close to the Kuratau River, Omori is a small boutique winery producing quality wines and olive oils. Lake Taupo is one of the greatest trout fisheries in the world. The lake area is a natural playground for fishing, sailing and in winter, skiing is only 40 minutes away. This is the idyllic setting of the picturesque Omori Estate.
The area also has a very special terrain: lake edge, high altitude, cool climate conditions and positioned on free-draining, deep pumice soils deposited over the last several few thousand by active volcanoes, Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngaruahoe, only 30 kilometres away.
The first olives were planted in 2001 and the vineyard of some 2 hectares was planted on the Stream Block in 2002 with Pinot Noir and in 2003 with Pinot Gris grapes. The production of both special wines and olive oils began in 2005.
