Taupo Primary School is located on the edge of the central business area of the Taupo township, set at the northern end of Lake Taupo. Lake Taupo Primary School is the oldest of the existing Primary level schools in the Taupo area, going back to the days of the early settlers in the Taupo area and the Armed Constabulary of that time.
Taupo Primary School is a co-ed State Primary School catering from New Entrant/Year 1 through to Year 6. The School Roll fluctuates between approximately 330 and 380 pupils. The school has 12 full time teaching staff. 6 shared and 4 part-time staff.
It should be noted that the advent of electrical power as a consumer service did not arrive until the 1950's and the roading through the area was generally poor with pumice surfaces and their associated dust in dry times and washouts and gouging in wet times. The old school bell is preserved for display near the school hall entrance and the old school house still stands and is used to this day by specialist staff.
