Cruise and feel the history of Taupo with Sail Taupo Limited in a genuine 1920's 50 foot ocean going yacht, a beautifully crafted wooden masterpiece once owned by Errol Flynn and now sailed in the 21st century by experienced skipper David Nesbitt.

Sail Taupo Limited conducts daily cruises to the famous ancient Maori rock carvings and The Barbary is available for private charter on Lake Taupo, in the Central Plateau of New Zealand (NZ).

The famous Maori Rock Carvings were created by a group of carvers lead by John Randall. These Maori Rock Carvings are over 10 metres high (possibly the largest of their type in the world) and are only accessible by boat.

Skipper David Nesbitt will explain the meaning and history of the carvings, which depict characters and stories from Maori history.

History
In 1905 Barbary's hull was designed in Scandinavia and by 1926 she was built, launched, and raced in California, USA. 12 years later, a young man, Errol Flynn had a very good hand in cards and became the new proud owner of Barbary. Up until 1945 Barbary cruised the world and many adventures were had. In 1947 Barbary had a New Zealand owner who had purchased her in Fiji. In 1973 Barbary was refitted and joined the Greenpeace anti-nuclear protest to Mururoa Atoll in the Pacific Ocean, but in 1976 broke moorings in a storm and became wrecked in Auckland. Between 1981 -1983 Bill Dawson salvaged and restored Barbary… and the rest as they say is history…
