The Blackforest Gourmet Butchery is a little piece of Germany in New Zealand, complete with a mouth-watering aroma of continental delicatessen.

German sausages are full of flavour and there are more than 1000 traditional sausage recipes from which German butchers add their own secret ingredients. There is also a range of smoked varieties which also give a different flavour.

Many of the sausages are already cooked and can be used sliced in salads or sandwiches, whilst others require cooking and are particularly well suited to barbecues. So why not crank up the barbecue and experience sausages the way they are supposed to taste?

You won't find any fillers in our traditionally made German sausages, so when we say it is a pork or beef sausage there is nothing else but the meat and the flavourings. Strict food laws in Germany prevent the use of fillers like flour or the addition of preservatives. The absence of any preservatives is the main reason producing the wurst is a full time job, but it also means customers are guaranteed freshness in what they buy.
History
The origins of German sausage date back as far as the 1400s. The first account is in Thüringen, from which Thüringer Bratwurst gets its name. Documents from 1595 and 1613 first mention Bratwurst.
