Saltwater Lodge was opened in 2001 and set a new standard of accommodation in New Zealand, offering the country's first Qualmark five star rating for back-packer lodges. Year-round comfort affordability and luxury make us the accommodation choice of travellers, families and groups from all over the world.

We are situated just 50 metres from the beach and we are the closest backpackers lodge to the waterfront. We are also just 5 minutes walk to the wharf, town centre, shops and bus terminal.

As the hub for tourism in the Far North, Paihia and its wharf see dozens of daily departures for fishing, sailing trips and scenic cruises, as well as day trips to the top of the North Island, Cape Reinga. All Tours and Activities can be arranged from our reception. We issue tickets on behalf of all local tour operators and can arrange discounts for various trips and activities.

Facilities: Facilities include a Large fully equipped kitchen with free tea and coffee and a spacious lounge and dining area with Internet facilities, we also provide: Free videos, Guest gymnasium Guest laundry, Disabled facilities, Booking agent for all tours, Bag storage Free bikes, Free tennis & use of barbeque, Large car parking
Features: Rooms - All rooms have their own en-suite bathroom lockers and linen is supplied at no extra charge, they are all heated and situated off a large balcony. We have 4 bed and 6 bed dormitories and private double and Twin rooms. Also available on the 2nd floor are deluxe 4-bed rooms which contain 2 single beds 2 bunks and a TV & Fridge. Guests can choose between king-size or twin beds (linen provided). They also have a bunk bed in the room so they can sleep up to 4 people, and have an en-suite bathroom, TV, fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and towels provided. All Tours and Activities can be arranged from our reception. We issue tickets on behalf of all local tour operators and can arrange discounts for various trips and activities.
