The Serious Fun River Surfing trip begins in calm water with an introduction to the equipment and instructions on the basics of riverboarding technique.

The infamous Chinese Dog Leg section graded 2 - 4, is named after New Zealand's longest commercial run rapid, surrounded by beautiful scenery. It is also home to the regions best surf spots where we stop and teach you how to surf standing waves.

The Roaring Meg section is a continuous 6km section graded 2-3 because of its fast flowing, mind blowing intensity.

Riversurfing

Details

Awards: Jon Imhoff, a surfer from Hawaii, came to Queenstown in 1989 to go snowboarding. Not used to being so far from the Ocean, he looked for an alternative to surfing in the following summer. He came up with the crazy idea to go down the Kawarau River on his bodyboard, and the sport of riversurfing was born. Later that summer he established Serious Fun Riversurfing, the original riversurfing Company. A few years later, after looking for other suitable locations around the world, he started a sister company on the Zambezi in 1995.
Opening Times: Departures: Twice daily; morning and afternoon. Both 4 hour trips with 1 ½ to 2 hours water time.
