McLaren Falls Park consists of 170 hectares of lakeland park set amongst pastoral farming and horticulture containing one of the best botanical collections of trees in the North Island. The lake offers year-round trout fishing for those who hold a fishing licence.

The park provides plenty of open space, stunning views and numerous meandering tracks through areas of native bush interspersed with exotic trees that provide spectacular autumn and spring colours. Visitors are encouraged to walk around the park and explore everything it has to offer. One of the highlights of the park is its glow worms.

Enjoy an easy stroll to the park's picturesque waterfall and see if you can spot glow worms on either of the track. There are some great spots for scenic photos and the park makes a stunning back drop for wedding photos. The park abounds with a diverse range of birdlife, up to 42 different species, including regionally threatened North Island Brown Kiwi, North Island Robin and the Long-Tailed Cuckoo. View these rare birds in their natural habitat or simply feed the ducks.
