Borland Lodge is situated at the gateway to Fiordland National Park in southern New Zealand - a World Heritage area. It is just off the Southern Scenic Route, between Lake Manapouri and Lake Monowai, south of Te Anau.
Borland is easily accessible but still sufficiently remote for a feeling of isolation. The surrounding area is a mixture of healthy beech forest, the lofty peaks of Fiordland, pasture with sheep and cattle, and plantations of pine and eucalypt.
There are short walks in the vicinity of the Lodge and along the shore of Lake Monowai including the popular Nature Walk - a 30 minute self-guided walk starting at the Lodge. The historic Monowai Power Station is a few minutes drive and the Borland Road takes you up to Borland Saddle for spectacular views of Fiordland National Park.
