The TranzCoastal

A truly spectacular journey, the TranzCoastal links the port of Picton to Christchurch, the South Island's largest city. Connecting with The Interislander ferry in the picturesque Marlborough Sounds, this journey is a scenic feast.

The TranzCoastal runs along a thin ledge of land pinned between the Pacific Ocean and the rugged Kaikoura Ranges. As you pass though the village of Kaikoura, you may choose to break your journey to take in the whale watching, or get closer and swim with the dolphins. Crossing the rolling farmlands of the north Canterbury Plains we then reach the elegant Garden City of Christchurch.

One of the world's most scenic train journeys, the TranzCoastal travels through 22 tunnels and crosses 175 bridges.
