Local Area: Dunedin was the leading economic centre in the country in the late 19th Century and has maintained a heritage of some fine old buildings. It also has a unique natural heritage. The Otago Peninsula with its dramatic cliffs and large sandy beaches forms the home for albatross, yellow eyed penguins, seals, sea lions and many other species.
Things to do: A city tour taking in the fine buildings. Visits to Olveston house and Larnach Castle. Taieri Gorge railway to see the challenges faced in opening the route inland. A drive down the Peninsula to view the wild life or to explore some of the walks.
