Situated in Lake Tekapo about two to three hours drive south-west of Christchurch, Lake Tekapo is famous for its remarkable turquoise coloured lake surrounded by the Southern Alps. A peaceful and relaxing setting, take a walk to the famous Church of the Good Shepherd, where the altar window frames a perfect view of the Alps. Visit the 'sheepdog monument' - a bronze statue recognising the districts debt to the sheepdog, go trout fishing or take to the slopes of the nearby ski fields.
