Set in subtropical native palm forest, nestled in the native West Coast bush adjoining the Paparoa National Park and 250m to the beach, Te Nikau Retreat consists of four large lodges, four smaller units, and three campsites, all scattered throughout five acres of lush West Coast rainforest.

Nikau Retreat caters for large groups, families, retreats and independent backpackers and travellers looking for budget accommodation. The lodges and units have all the comforts of home with fully equipped kitchens, separate showers and toilets, and homemade muffins and bread baked daily for sale.

An ideal base for bush tramps (including Inland Pack Track, Croesus), relaxing by the sea or taking part in the many activities and attractions such as horse trekking, kayaking, and caving, all right on your doorstep.

Getting There: 3kms north of Pancake Rocks, look for the sign for Hartmount Place, Motel, Homestay and Backpackers. This sign indicates the turnoff for Te Nikau Retreat. We are 200 meters down the gravel road on the left hand side.

My boyfriend and I stayed here last year and were really impressed! Firstly, it's set in the most beautiful native bush, close to a really stunning beach (with caves and rock pools).
