A great place to explore the region's nature and history, the South Canterbury Museum housed in a unique octagonal gallery space, contains displays featuring geology, wildlife, Maori history, early European settlement, including the story of local man Richard Pearce, who flew before the Wright Brothers. The mezzanine floor gallery features social history including costume, household collections and many aspects of local life in the past.
Providing a wealth of information and images for students, historians and genealogists, is the history library and research area.
