The Rungway is the Southern Hemisphere's first and only Via Ferrata. Essentially it is a series of rungs, pegs, rails, ladders and cables permanently fixed into the cliff faces of Queenstown Hill, allowing anyone of moderate fitness to experience the excitement, exposure and scenic beauty normally only enjoyed by people with advanced climbing skills.
After a short five-minute drive from downtown Queenstown in the courtesy van you arrive at the onsite office. There are 12 cliffs and routes spread across Queenstown Hill. Each has been graded into one of three levels, with three being the most challenging. They have long steep pitches, overhangs and a lot of exposure.
If you are up for it you can do any route without having any previous experience. It is up to you to decide on which routes you want to take. No matter what routes you choose you will be overcome with an amazing sense of achievement when you realise what you have accomplished all on your own.
