Come and experience an authentic journey that enables the visitor to capture the lifestyle, history and culture of the people of the Whanganui Iwi (Tribe).

Whanganui River Guides are based in Taumarunui, beside the upper reaches of the beautiful waters of the Whanganui river. The Whanganui River begins at the mountains and ends at the mouth of the Tasman Sea. You are welcome to explore this timeless River and all its beauty in one of New Zealand's most breathtaking National Parks. Be hosted along the way by Tangata Whenua (People of the Land).

Journey on the Whanganui Awa in a Waka (Canadian canoe). The 6 people Waka is made to cut through the water for a smoother, faster and safer ride. Great fun for groups and families as there is less paddling and less work. Your Maori guide will steer you down the awa safely entertaining you with their typical Maori humour.
