The Sarjeant is heralded as one of New Zealand's leading art galleries. Situated in the majestic Queens Park, the historic building houses an important art collection of over 5000 works dating from 1824 to present.
The Gallery's acquisition process highlights a strong interest in; contemporary Maori art, sculpture, particularly made out of wood and photography. They promote the work of both national and international artists and the unsurpassable work of Edith Collier and Philip Trusttum are amplified by comprehensive loan collections.
The Sarjeant Gallery delivers a dynamic programme of constantly changing exhibitions and related public events, an educational service to schools and the Tylee Cottage Artist-in-Residency Programme.
