Come to Wellington's museum and explore distinctive tales of Wellington from first settlement by Maori to the present. Redeveloped and restored, the historic 1892 building is a magnificent storehouse for Wellington's most important treasure - its history. Changing Exhibitions explore social, cultural, historical or maritime subjects, events and places from Wellington and beyond.
The Museum has over 95,000 items in its collection. Items range from 20th century shipping & machinery, through to social history & art. The Museum also has holds the Paine (Maori) Collection, and a full set of the Royal Crown Jewels - but only replicas of course.
Museum of Wellington City & Sea is centrally located in the CBD and open seven days a week. Guided tours are available for just $2 by appointment.
