White Heron Sanctuary Tours

White Heron Sanctuary Tours guide you through The Waitangi Roto Nature Reserve, a sanctuary to most of the bird life in the South West Heritage Area. Providing a unique experience to New Zealand's only Kotuku (White Heron) nesting site, view the magnificent Kotuku (White Heron), the Kotuku Ngutu Papa (Royal Spoonbill), the Kawapaka (Little Black Shag) and other Bird life - all in their natural environment.

The tour consists of a short minibus ride to the river to connect with the jet boat, a gentle 20 minutes each way. From the jetty it is a short boardwalk (500mtrs) through native bush to where you can stay for 30-40 minutes to view the birds.

A photographers paradise, with luscious rainforest and snow capped peaks of Mt Cook and Tasman, there is a huge range of birds to be seen or heard on the tour.

The White Heron Tour operates from late October to March and the Rainforest Nature Tour and Scenic Jet boating operates all year round.
