Washpen Falls is a unique, private alpine walking track situated within a volcanic canyon containing a great variety of southern New Zealand native bush, plants, birds, exotic forests, grazing tussock land and extensive views across the Canterbury Plains.

This fascinating track commences at Birchview Chalet, taking you through the Canyon, up to the top where you are rewarded with views across the Plains to the sea, before descending down alongside spring-fed creeks and stunning waterfalls. Ending beside the lake, where you can enjoy authentic country refreshments at the rustic, private shelter.

This unspoilt area is easily accessed via considerately constructed tracks, stairs and board walks, and situated an hour's drive from Christchurch. The walk takes approximately 2 hours and a moderate level of fitness is required.
