Haast Visitor Centre has informative displays about the unique cultural, historic, and natural features of South Westland and Te Wahipounamu - the infamous South Westland New Zealand World Heritage Area.

Staff are happy to advise on what to see and do in the Haast area plus provide track information, backcountry hut tickets and hunting permits. There are also conservation related products for sale, books on New Zealand's wildlife and forests, postcards, maps and gifts. There is a card phone and toilets available. A twenty minute film about the Haast landscape "The Edge of Wilderness" is available to view in our theatre for a small fee.

Local Area
The town sits at the mouth of the Grey River hence its name. A major East Coast to West Coast route by road and rail between Christchurch and Greymouth, the town sees a lot of tourist traffic and is a typical "passing through" destination.
