Ormondville Station, in Southern Hawkes Bay once served an area stretching between the Ruahine Ranges and the east coast. Built in 1880, it also served Norsewood, then the area's largest town. Because of the station, Ormondville became a thriving rural service centre. However, as transportation styles changed, its usage declined.

Until the 'Bay Express' ceased running in 2001, it was NZ's oldest station served by Tranz Scenic trains. It remains NZ's oldest complete rural rail precinct, and has been restored to match its 1950s heyday.

The station buildings are normally opened by special arrangement only. It also provides self-catered (motel-style) accommodation.
