Artist in Oils Barbara Smith

For local artist Barbara Smith her interest in art flourished from an early age and was nurtured by her grandmother who introduced her to oil painting when she was 12 years old.

Not only did Maribel Chalmers instruct Barbara in the basics of oil painting but she also introduced her to the contemporary artists of the day, who frequented Arrowtown to paint the beauty of the surrounding landscapes.

Barbara specialises in original oil paintings of New Zealand landscapes such as Milford Sound, Hollyford valley, Doubtful Sound, Te Anau, Fiordland, Shotover River, Macetown, Lake Manapouri, Greymouth, Lake Wakatipu etc. Barbara also offers greeting cards of her oil paintings at her studio and inspirational arts and crafts.
