Stargazing tours depart nightly from Lake Tekapo village, where fully trained guides will explain to you the southern stars and objects in detail, showing you the Southern Cross and Pointers, the False Cross and Diamond Cross, Alpha Centauri (the closest star) and the solitary Canopus that guides spacecraft. See the Coalsack Nebula and neighbouring galaxies, the Magellan clouds. View double stars, star clusters, clouds of gas flowing among the stars and galaxies millions of light-years away. All equipment is provided as you navigate your way through the Southern Sky using a telescope, binoculars and the naked eye.
With their high elevation and no town within 100km, Lake Tekapo and Mt. Cook have a reputation for their beautiful starry nights and known as one of the best sites for star watching in the southern hemisphere.
