Whirinaki Guided Walks provide single and multi-day walks and marae experiences (including overnight stays for groups) in and near the 60,000 hectare Whirinaki Forest Park of Te Urewera.
This forest is home to the giant totara, Miro, kahikatea, matai and rimu that stand up to 65 metres tall and had their origins in the Jurassic era, 200 million years ago.
This walk programme offers cultural components, including on-track interpretation by Maori guides whose ancestors have used the forest for food and medicine for centuries - practices that are still maintained today.
The Whirinaki rainforest guided walks programme offers the last great wilderness escape in New Zealand.
