- Timaru has numerous golf courses close by, as well as great fishing rivers, lakes, ski fields, wineries plus the lovely Caroline Bay, a great beach for the children as well as our 'famous' carnival held from boxing day until mid January. We are a 2 hours drive from Christchurch and Mt Cook and 2 1/2 hours from Dunedin
