Banks Peninsula was one of the first areas in New Zealand to start producing and exporting cheese, and this continues today at Barrys Bay Cheese.
During the season, usually October until May, every second day you can watch cheese being made through the gallery window. A short movie about cheese making can also be viewed at any time.
Barrys Bay award winning cheeses include European cheeses - maasdam, havarti, etc. Their Settler's Range of old-fashioned cheddars and their cloth and wax bound Mature Rinded Cheddar are aged 2 1/2 years and older. The award winning cheese is a truly tasty cheese that only comes from being properly aged.
