Home to the famous War Birds Show, the Wanaka Airport has a wide variety of other operations and facilities. There are over 50 people who work in aviation and tourism fields at the airport. On a typical day there are about 40 aircraft landings and several hundred visitors.

Some of the popular scenic flights inlcude tours of Milford Sound and Mount Cook. A variety of helicopter charters are also based at the airport. Aside from charters, tandem skydiving flights and parachuting activities are launched from the airport. Adventure flights in military aircraft are expected to become a popular activity.

Wanaka Airport has a new scheduled passenger service - currently flying once daily between Wanaka and Christchurch.

*The New Zealand Fighter Pilots Museum based at the airport has an Alpine Fighter Collection and an amazing collection of airworthy WWII fighter aircraft including a Vampire, Hurricane, Mustang and Polikarpov I-16 & I -153. Opening hours are 9.00 am to 4.00 pm seven days a week (9.00 am to 6.00 pm from 27 December to 27 January)
