Jitterbugs was established in 1998 by Michelle Stoupe upon returning from Europe back to Auckland to spread her passion for the swing era and lindy hop dancing. Jitterbugs is the longest running swing dancing school in Auckland and New Zealand and continues to introduce people of all ages to the fun and social dances of the swing era.
Lindy hop (or Jitterbug) is the original partnered dance from the 30s and 40s enjoying a worldwide revival. While it is the flagship swing dance, we also teach other dances that are part of the genre - shag, balboa, charleston and strolls such as The Shim Sham, The Big Apple, our own Jitterbug Stroll (choreographed by Jitterbugs London) and The Madison - that are known throughout the swing dancing world.
Swing dancing is contagious! It's social, it's cool and it's jazzy! You'll make a bunch of new friends, have fun and get fit all at the same time. So, grab your mates, bring a sense of adventure and come to where all of the cats join in!
