Fiordland is located in the bottom southwest corner of the South Island. This stunning World Heritage area is defined by towering peaks and plunging fiords, and swells with wildlife and native forest. Home to 3 of New Zealand's "Great Walks" - Milford Track, Routeburn Track and Kepler Track - Fiordland is a popular visitor destination.

BY ROAD:

QUEENSTOWN TO TE ANAU: From Queenstown head out of town on Frankton Road. At Kawarau Road turn right and follow 1.5kms to Kingston Road. Continue on Kingston Road / State Highway 6 for 85kms to Five Rivers. At Five Rivers take State Highway 97 to Mossburn. From Mossburn head west on State Highway 94 for 58kms, to Te Anau.

Driving Time: 2 hours 25 minutes

INVERCARGILL TO TE ANAU: From Invercargill head northwest on State Highway 6 to Castlerock - a distance of around 86kms. At Castlerock head west on State Highway 94 for 72kms to Te Anau.

INVERCARGILL TO MILFORD SOUND: From Invercargill head northwest on State Highway 6 to Castlerock - a distance of around 86kms. At Castlerock head west on State Highway 94 for 72kms to Te Anau. At Te Anau continue north on State Highway 94 for 117kms to Milford Sound - passing through the Homer Tunnel.

Driving Time: 3 hours 30 minutes

BY AIR: Te Anau has a small airport that is serviced by three inbond DC3 charter flights a week. More frequent domestic flights arrive at Dunedin, Invercargill and Queenstown Airports - with regular coach connections available to connect through to Te Anau.

BY COACH: Daily bus services from all the major South Island centres connect with Te Anau. Intercity Coachlines connects to Te Anau from Christchurch (via Dunedin). The Atomic Shuttle connects to Te Anau from Christchurch, via Queenstown. The Spitfire Shuttle connects to Manapouri and Te Anau from Invercargill.
