Puke Ariki, located on Ariki Street in the heart of New Plymouth, is a unique combination of museum, library and visitor information centre. The modern building is divided into two wings, housing a superb collection of Taranaki history, artefacts, books and music.
The museum tells the story of Taranaki through a number of permanent exhibition spaces - Te Takapou Whâriki o Taranaki, Taranaki Experience, Taranaki Life and Taranaki Naturally. These collections tell the story of Taranaki - from the distinctive geography of the region to the culture of Maori and Pakeha.
The Puke Ariki library has a vast catalogue, including books, magazines, audio books, CDs, videos, DVDs and CD ROMs.
Finally, the visitor information centre (i-SITE) is a one-stop-shop for all your Taranaki tourist needs. With helpful staff and a vast amount of local knowledge, the Puke Ariki i-SITE is the perfect location to plan any Taranaki visit.
