The Hawke's Bay is located on the east coast of the North Island. It is a renowned wine growing area, famous also for its Art Deco architecture and high sunshine hours.

BY ROAD:

AUCKLAND TO NAPIER: From Auckland head south on the Southern Motorway for approximately 50kms. Exit the motorway onto State Highway 2 and follow for 38kms. At Mangatarata take State Highway 27 for 95kms to Tirau. At Tirau follow State Highway 1 to Taupo. From Taupo head west on State Highway 5 for 141kms.

Driving Time: 5 hours 45 minutes

WELLINGTON TO NAPIER: From downtown Wellington take the Wellington Urban Motorway north to the Johnsonville Porirua Motorway. Continue on the Johnsonville Porirua Motorway for 12kms, until it becomes State Highway 1. Continue north on State Highway 1 for 79kms to Levin. From Levin follow State Highway 57 to Palmerston North. Turn right onto Napier Road / State Highway 3 and continue on through Woodville. From Woodville follow State Highway 2 60kms to just before Takapau. From there join State Highway 50 and continue on 95kms to Napier.

Driving Time: 4 hours 35 minutes

BY AIR: Hawke's Bay Airport is located 10 minutes from Napier, on State Highway 2. Daily domestic flights to major New Zealand airports are operated by Air New Zealand, with Sunair catering for Napier-Gisborne flights. Air Chathams also operates a weekly service to the Chatham Islands, on Thursdays.

BY COACH: Coach operators running regular services in Napier and Hastings include Newmans and Intercity Coachlines.
