Eastland is a sprawling region situated on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island. The main centre of Gisborne is the first city in the world to see the sun each day.

BY ROAD:

AUCKLAND TO GISBORNE: Heading south, follow the Southern Motorway out of Auckland for around 50kms. Take the State Highway 2 exit and continue for roughly 150kms to Tauranga, via Katikati. From Tauranga continue 147kms on State Highway 2 through Te Puke and Edgecumbe to Opotoki. From Opotiki follow State Highway 2 for 144kms inland to Gisborne.

Driving Time: 6 hours 40 minutes

AUCKLAND TO EAST CAPE: Heading south, follow the Southern Motorway out of Auckland for around 50kms. Take the State Highway 2 exit, and continue on roughly 150kms to Tauranga, via Katikati. From Tauranga continue 147kms on State Highway 2 through Te Puke and Edgecumbe to Opotoki. From Opotiki follow State Highway 35 along the coast for 180kms.

Driving Time: 7 hours 55 minutes

WELLINGTON TO GISBORNE: From downtown Wellington take the Wellington Urban Motorway north to the Johnsonville Porirua Motorway. Continue on the Johnsonville Porirua Motorway for 12kms, until it becomes State Highway 1. Continue north on State Highway 1 for 79kms to Levin. From Levin follow State Highway 57 to Palmerston North. Turn right onto Napier Road / State Highway 3 and continue on through Woodville. From Woodville follow State Highway 2 60kms to just before Takapau. From there join State Highway 50 and continue on 95kms to Napier. From Napier follow State Highway 2 for 216kms along the coast, to Gisborne.

Driving Time: 7 hours 15 minutes

WELLINGTON TO EAST CAPE: Follow State Highway 1 to Levin, turning onto State Highway 57 towards Palmerston North. From Palmerston North follow Napier Road / State Highway 3 to Woodville. At Woodville take State Highway 2 to just before Takapau, and then follow State Highway 50 to Napier. From Napier take State Highway 2 to Gisborne. From Gisborne follow State Highway 35 north along the coast for 191kms, to East Cape.

Driving Time: 10 hours 35 minutes

BY AIR: Gisborne Airport is located 5kms from Gisborne's central business district. Air New Zealand and Sunair both have scheduled flights in and out of Gisborne Airport.

BY COACH: A number of national bus services run in the Eastland region, including Intercity who have scheduled stops in Gisborne and Wairoa.
