Situated on the Lammerlaw and Lammermoor ranges, west of Dunedin, Te Papanui Conservation Park is a remote area of tussock grassland and bog landscapes - one of a number of high-country tussockland parks that have been established in the eastern South Island.
The 21,000 hectare park was opened in March 2003 and is an area of very high ecological value, protecting a large intact indigenous tussock grassland area.
Te Papanui Conservation Park provides a home for a huge variety of animals and native plants, including 547 species of native insects, as well as the narrow-leaved snow tussock and many rare wetland plants.
