Situated in a mountain valley in Fiordland National Park, Lake Hauroko is the deepest lake in New Zealand (462 metres) and the boat journey across it provides a spectacular start to the Dusky Track. The long S-shaped lake is 40 kilometres in length and covers an area of 63 km².
