At Te Anau it’s all about enjoying nature. Located in the south islands famous Fiordlands, the lake-side resort town is surrounded by snow-capped peaks. These mountains are criss-crossed by challenging hiking trails, including the ‘Great Walks’ of Kepler, Milford and Routeburn Tracks.

For those not so keen on blisters, a sailboat or kayak is a great way to explore Lake Te Anau, New Zealand’s second largest lake, and the lush rainforest that lines parts of the shore.

Te Anau is where you begin your exploration of the Fiordlands National Park. The National Park is an absolute ‘must-see’ when on the south island, boasting the country’s two best-known fiords, Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound.
