Lovers of wine are best to base themselves in Blenheim. It's the largest town in the Marlborough region and the area is well known for its pretty gardens, sunshine, wine and gourmet food. It is the best base and gateway for sampling wines from the largest wine region in New Zealand.

The town grew up around a swamp, although you wouldn't know it. The former swamp is now Seymour Square, adorned with beautiful gardens and lawns. The town is at the junction of the Opawa and Taylor rivers, about 30km from the port town of Picton.
