Reefton is a large town situated on the South Island of New Zealand some 80 kilometres northeast of Greymouth. It is located in the Nelson region, nestled in the Inangahua River valley between the rugged and spectacular Victoria and Paparoa ranges. Reefton is the Coast's only inland town - centrally located at a hub of state highway access into the Coast, north from Murchison, Nelson and Blenheim and east from Christchurch.

Founded as a Quartz mining town, Reefton has a strong history of technology and innovation and in August 1888 Reefton became the first place in New Zealand and the Southern Hemisphere to have a public supply of electricity, even before the fashionable suburbs of London and New York.

Reefton today has a stable population of approximately 1100 and a vibrant community spirit. The town and the people have a strong sense of identity, wrapped around the town's historic past.
