Renowned for its oranges and kiwi fruit, the village of Kerikeri also offers some of the most stunning surf beaches New Zealand has to offer. The area is dotted with pretty towns with a strong sense of Maori and European history, great beaches, rivers, orchards and national parks. One of the best golf courses in the world, Kauri Cliffs, offers golfers amazing views over Matauri Bay and the coast.

Kerikeri is rich in the arts and crafts - keep an eye out for the many galleries and studios as you enter the town. The buzzing town centre has stylish cafes, restaurants and bars that serve great food from middle eastern cuisine to seafood delights; you are guaranteed to find a superb cup of coffee.

The area is home to New Zealand's oldest European buildings, the Stone Store and the Kemp House, which sit in the picturesque Keri Keri Basin. Rewa's Village and Kororipo Pa, a replica of a pre-European Maori fishing village (kainga), are a chance to soak up the history and enjoy a coffee by the river, where ducks and geese enjoy being fed.

At the Puketi Kauri Forest the elevated wooden walkway is one of Northland's few forest walks accessible by wheelchair. The path is designed to protect the kauris' sensitive feeding roots and allows you to get a close look at these magnificent trees. The kauri is one of the most impressive tree species in the world and home to endangered native birds in the area such as the brown kiwi, kokako and kaka. From adventure sports to golden sandy surf beaches great for swimming and water sports, sailing and bushwalking, Kerikeri has something for everyone.
