Passengers travelling on Cathay Pacific between Auckland and Hong Kong can now check-in and board without a single piece of paper.

The airline has launched a new mobile boarding pass service for travellers who check-in online. They can opt to have an e-boarding pass sent to their mobile devices by email or text message.

The image will include details on how to proceed at the airport.

Airline e-Business manager Lawrence Fong says the service gives passengers "more flexibility when travelling on our flights" and a smoother airport experience.

Passengers with bags to check in still need to drop them off at least 45 minutes before departure.

The mobile pass gets passengers through security and immigration and will be scanned at the boarding gate.

It will be gradually rolled out across the airline's network.
